Did you know?
With only 340,000 sq. miles of jatropha farms, we could fuel the US ENTIRELY with biodiesel without having to import anything?
- 1 million hectares of jatropha would provide for 2 full days of the US oil consumption.
- Jatropha can be harvested twice a year.
- There are 2.5 acres per hectare.
- There are 650 acres per square mile
As of 2005, there are 1.45million square miles of farm land in the US. If the US grew the farming industry by 23% with dedicated jatropha farms, we could be energy independent using biodiesel.
These numbers do not account for the other green fuels we will diversify with ... namely solar, wind, ocean current, algae ethanol, etc. Realistically, the US could be EXPORTING biofuel and/or other energies.
There are no opinions expressed here, simply facts for the entire population of the US to consider.
